The number of persons currently on-boarded to the global community called the social media is massive and staggering, this figure runs into millions even billions as is the case with the tech Giant called Meta, A subsidiary of Meta commonly known as Facebook boast of billions of active users on it social space .

This millions and Billions as the case maybe are represented by fragments of Data floating around the web, mostly left uncared for or to be a little lenient i can say this data are being mismanaged, The need for tight security from social media companies on their social platforms is obviously underemphasis . Facebook alone from reports receives more than 600,000 security hack attempts each day. This might sound like a no big deal because of the choice of lexis being used in this context, but to be fair 600,000 attempts does represent a healthy space for consumers of the social media.

WEB2 SOCIAL MEDIA

Online socialising on Web2 hosted social sites has over the last decade become a household concept and go to space and this has in many ways pushed the popularity rapidly to become the new way to network, engage, learn and make friends, but this also has created an easier route to become victims of malware and other forms of attacks including but not limited to identity and data leaks.

The key characteristic of social media technology is the possibility to connect with other users worldwide and to access, post and share information on a regular and continuous basis as earlier mention. Millions of users are now connected locally and globally thanks to the rapid spread of these technologies and their ease of use. Sadly this comes with its own challenges as i have summarized into two major category and outlined same below

The most prominent threats posed by social networking sites fall into two categories: technical and social.

Technically, Web 2.0 sites allow millions of people to post content andas much as we have genuine users the are also those coming with wrong intent and also the is the Government and organized firms that are constantly trying to post malware on these sites and or extract data for the purpose of targetted marketing and other activities that requires user data.

Socially, the threat lies in the amount of personal information that people share on social networking sites like Google Plus, MySpace, Facebook, Twitter, and LinkedIn. This information makes them more vulnerable to phishing attacks, as personalized attacks are far more credible.

CITED CASES

Case 1: A massive cyber attack took place in 2012 by a hacker named “Peace” This massive assault led to the exploitations of well over 117 million LinkedIn users’ passwords. In a bit to move on from the initial attack, LinkedIn erected what i like to call a new protocol or protocols (depending on your school of thoughts) and sadly that was the best the ever did and the breach was all but forgotten in the public eye, Five years on the same hacker reared their head again. and this time the “Peace” began releasing the details stolen from the last attack on LinkedIn all to the detriments of users.

Case 2: In March 2021, hackers scraped the social media giant Facebook due to a vulnerability that was patched in 2019. A whopping 533 million user data from 106 countries were posted onto a hacking forum. These included full names, phone numbers, user locations, biographical information, and email addresses.

A NEW APPROACH WITH WEB3
Web3 is a new trend and also a new technology that models and reflects what an actual social media should be in terms of viability and security of user data and interestingly the web3 social media is yet an explored facet bar Solcial a Blockchain based social media giant that is looking to pickup the deadwoods and possible loopholes left currently ravaging the big social media founded on centralised framework.

Generally the web3 is an advanced version of the website that is hosted on the Blockchain, In all justification the Blockchain has stood out especially when it comes to security and privacy protection which is why solcial is able to correct and build a platform that takes security of user data and content to the Zenith.

On Solcial the social space is encrypted using some of the best programming languages and by extension strings of codes that is backed by the Blockchain technology which as we all know is uneditable which means even solcial cannot temper with user data and privacy ones it uploaded by the user.

Also when users are onboarded to the solcial app and web platform the amount of information required of them is very little and quite basic even to the point of not making emails compulsory.

What this means is users who migrate from the web2 social media to the web3 social media as led by solcial, will have no need to worry about their data and also content because what ever activity happens on the Blockchain is transparent enough for anyone and everyone to see but yet safe enough for non to be able to steal from.

ABOUT SOLCIAL
Solcial is setting the pace for a permission-less social network that gives users the power and control allowing them to interact with each other without fear of censorship, while being rewarded adequately through the robust new technology called blockchain.
